Welcome to the 2024-25 High School Bowling Season

Passing of the torch

Past President Robert Tubbs to President Scott Spahr

Message From the Office of the President

Greetings all! Scott E (Spahr) here.

First, thanks to all those who attended this year’s AGM, held at Royal Scot Lanes in Lansing on October 5th. The feedback we received about the speaker/presenter Andrew Anderson, PBA Member, and Turbo Representative has been overwhelmingly positive. Andrew spoke for 2 hours on his experiences as a high school and college bowler in Michigan, his experiences as a PBA Champion, and things he has experienced as a private coach over the past 7 years. It was extremely engaging and involved a lot of interaction between those present and himself. Thanks again, Andrew!!!

After lunch, Cole Malatinsky of the MHSAA gave an in-person presentation of this year’s rules meeting. Again, it was a very engaging and interactive presentation. It is always a very nice bonus to connect with our sports’ representative to the governing organization. Cole continues to do wonderful work both this presentation and with his other duties at the MHSAA. Thank you, Cole!!!

To finish up, the business meeting portion of the day took place. The minutes which will be forthcoming and posted soon. Some of the last business of the day was filling the roles of offices that were up for election this year.

Those offices elected were:

1st Vice President (for 1 year completing term vacated by myself):

MaryAnn Richmond of South Haven

2nd Vice President (2 years, replacing MaryAnn as she takes on her new role):

Secretary (2 Years): Kailee Tubbs of Davison

Westside at Large (1 year, completing the term vacated by the passing of Don Lamb of Allegan (Rest in Peace)): Dan Graef of Portland

Please welcome them all and utilize these officers and the entire board for your coaching questions. We are all here to help!!!!!

Finally, I just want to thank everyone who attended the meeting and for placing their trust in me to help lead this organization in assisting our members in their journey as coaches for the next two years. Just a little background for me. Currently, entering my 13th season as the ladies coach for the Sturgis High School Trojans where I have been since the second year of the program. I am currently a USBC Bronze Level, CAP Master Elite ++, NFHS AIC, CIC, Coach Level 3 certified individual (Take as many of those CAP classes as possible, they provide a ton of knowledge). This will also be my 11th season as a member of this board Know that I am available to help with anything I can.

Looking forward, a priority for me over the next year will be more consistent communication with the membership, increasing the membership numbers toward 100% of head coaches, and getting as many as possible actively engaged and involved. Also, finding a workable solution to the crowding issue at the State Finals, and possible expansion in number of qualifiers at State Finals.

Ready for an exciting journey for the upcoming season and beyond!

Respectfully yours

Scott E Spahr
